Artist Notes on this Piece This was a piece I did in my second year of Art College. I entered it in the Tom Thompson Juried Show in 1992, it was voted the “People’s Choice Award.” It’s idea was inspired by “The Four Winds Assembly” held at Cape Croker Indian Reserve earlier that year. It was the first time I ever heard the Native Drumming. The power of Mother Earth’s Heart Beat took me right out of my body. I wanted the idea of being lifted up into a spiritual place by the rhythm of the drumming. I believe that when we see with Spirit Eyes, colours become so intense, shades of grey disappear. I strive to bring an intensity of colour and contrast to most of my work. |
