Artist Notes on this Piece It was the summer after I finished College and I awoke from the strangest dream. An Angel appeared to me and told me “Paint this.” I got up and went to the basement and did not come back up until it was finished. Other than a bit of touching up a month later, the piece I created was the painting the angel revealed to me. After that I did not paint for 11 years. I felt so unworthy to paint anything else after that. The dream seemed so powerful for me, I really thought that I could not paint anything meaningful from my own waking consciousness. I struggled with my thoughts to find an inspired subject and it never came. The years that followed were then dedicated to the pursuit of a living and the resolution of my family relationships. It wasn’t until 2004 that through the experience of grief that the artist within me was reawakened. |
